Distribution of Fe and Mg between garnet and biotite in Scottish Barrovian metamorphic zones
نویسنده
چکیده
The distribution coefficient KD=(Mg / Fe)garnet/(Mg/Fe)biotite has been calculated for eight garnet-biotite pairs from rocks ranging from the garnet isograd to the staurolite zone along the Stonehaven coast of NE Scotland. This distribution coefficient depends upon metamorphic temperature and is not dependent upon the Mn and Ca content of garnet. Garnet-biotite geothermometer yields temperatures of about 5oo, 55o, and 575-62o ~ for the garnet, chloritoid + staurolite, and staurolite zones respectively.

Garnet-Biotite Chemistry for Thermometry of Staurolite Schist from South of Mashhad, NE Iran
Mashhad Metamorphic Complex (MMC) with metamorphic, granitic intrusions and ophiolite units is situated in the suture zone of Paleotethys in NE Iran. Triassic staurolite-garnet schist of Khalaj represents the highest grade of metamorphism in MMC. In this study EPMA analyses of garnet and biotite used to determine the maximum temperature for regional metamorphism. The pattern of zoning in garnet...
متن کاملSynchronous peak Barrovian metamorphism driven by syn-orogenic magmatism and fluid flow in southern Connecticut, USA
Recent work in Barrovian metamorphic terranes has found that rocks experience peak metamorphic temperatures across several grades at similar times. This result is inconsistent with most geodynamic models of crustal over-thickening and conductive heating, wherein rocks which reach different metamorphic grades generally reach peak temperatures at different times. Instead, the presence of addition...
متن کاملPetrography, mineral chemistry and thermobarometry of amphibolites from the Allahyarlu metamorphic complex -Ardebil, NW Iran
The pre-Eocene Allahyarlu ophiolitic- metamorphic complex is exposd in the core of the Allahyarlu anticline in the northwest of Iran and northeast of Meshginshahr. This complex consists of a variety of schist, gneiss, amphibolite and metadibase rocks with serpentinite and tectonic slices including gabbro, dunit, marble and diabase. Amphibolites can be divided into garnet-free amphibolite and ga...
متن کاملPetrology and Cooling Rates of the Valhalla Complex, British Columbia, Canada
Rocks from the Valhalla metamorphic core complex, British Columbia, Canada, have experienced granulite Jades metamorphism at conditions of 820±30°C, 8±1 kbar. Peak metamorphism was accompanied by dehydration melting of muscovite, but not biotite, followed by minor back reaction of garnet + K-feldspar + H20sillimanite + biotite+plagio close.' At conditions very near those of the peak, extensive ...
متن کاملGarnet (Almandine-Spessartine) Growth Zoning and Its Application to Constrain Metamorphic History in Dehsalm Complex, Iran
Dehsalm Metamorphic Complex located in east of Iran consists of regionally metamorphosed rocks intruded by three phases of granitic masses. Synkinematic porphyroblasts of garnet from staurolite-garnet schist present well preserved growth zoning. Electron microprobe analysis of selected garnets was carried out to interpret the origin and pattern of zoning in amphibolite facies garnets and its im...
